Valencia Coach Unai Emery Calls For 'Deep Reflection' After Poor Display Against Mallorca

Valencia coach Unai Emery has called for "deep reflection" from his players after they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Mallorca at the Ono Stadi.

After starting with David Villa and David Silva on the bench Los Che were well off the pace from the start and trailed 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Gonzalo Castro and Pierre Webo and could have been further behind. Jordi Alba did pull one back but a Manuel Fernandes own goal meant Pablo Hernandez's late strike was merely a consolation goal for the visitors.

""We have to make deep reflection and more than ever collective and individual evaluation. Today we have done many things wrong, many, some are correctable, but we cannot lose face and lose respect for the crest," Emery told a press conference.

Emery was also left dismayed by the actions of Argentine midfielder Ever Banega who had a childlike tantrum after being taken off in the second half.

"The player did not lose respect for the coach but for the football club. He lost respect for himself. I do not consider it a lack of respect towards me. The most important thing now is a quick correction and you cannot lose respect for the club and the institution that pays you and the team of people behind you. The collective interest is above that o the individual, and this cannot be repeated again," he insisted.
