Indian fans can finally look forward to Sunil Chhetri making his official debut for the Kansas City Wizards, as according to a report in the Kansas City Star, he is expected to feature in the Wizards squad for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup match against Colorado Rapids on Tuesday.
Following an long-term injury to Hungarian striker Zoltan Hercegfalvi, Sunil was drafted into the 24-man roster for the game. Chhetri hadn't played in the MLS game against the same opposition on April 10 as he still hasn't recieved his clearance papers from the USSF (United States Soccer Federation) and the MLS.
Wizards manager Peter Vermes confirmed that the 24-man squad would be used to its optimum, stating, "Any competition that comes our way, we want to try and win it. We also have a game four days later in Seattle.
"We have a 24-man roster, and we are going to try and use our guys to the best of their ability."
Sunil Chhetri was pleased to see his name on the roster and said,"I'm very excited to be able to appear with the team. We have a good squad and I'm going to give my best to help us on the field."
Also, very interestingly, the number of fans on the Wizards' Facebook community has shot up remarkably since Sunil signed for the club, with many of his fans in the country signing up.
Hopefully now, we will finally see the man in action for the team.
