Portsmouth Captain David James: We Deserve Our FA Cup Final Place

Portsmouth captain David James has hailed his side's heroic FA Cup run after their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

James told ITV after the game: "We deserved to win and look what it means for the Portsmouth fans."

"The gaffer has been drilling it into us all week how great an occasion this is for the players. This season encapsulates just about every emotion you can have as a footballer and today has been absolutely superb."

After having relegation from the Premier League confirmed yesterday the victory means Portsmouth have become only the seventh team ever to reach the FA Cup final in a relegation season.

Hayden Mullins echoed James' comments and believed his team-mates earned their place in the final.

"You can see how much it means to everyone at Portsmouth," he said. "It was a blow being relegated on Saturday, but every single player in that changing-room deserves to have won today.

"We've been written off all season and to give the fans something like this is magic."

Portsmouth will play Chelsea in the final next month after the Londoners beat Aston Villa 3-0 in the first semi-final yesterday.
