Lionel Messi is focused on returning to the Santiago Bernabeu with Barcelona for the Champions League final at the end of the season, after his performance guided the Blaugrana to a 2-0 win over Real Madrid to move a step closer to retaining La Primera.

The Argentine superstar opened the scoring after a neat move involving Xavi, and then Pedro wrapped up the win in the second half with a superb run and finish.

Speaking to the press after the match, Messi however spoke eagerly of his desire to return to the home of Los Blancos to once again lift the Champions League trophy.

He said, “We must go slowly, step by step, because there are still seven league matches remaining. In the Champions League we have the possibility of returning here, which would be very nice.”

Messi also spoke of how satisfying it was to be part of such a successful team, and in particular the abilities of the club’s midfield players.

He added, “It is the second consecutive game we have won here, and we won again by producing a great performance. Playing with Xavi, Andres [Iniesta], Busi [Sergio Busquets] and Yaya [Toure], with these players football becomes more simple.”
