Valdano: We will play our hearts out

Jorge Valdano has insisted Real Madrid will not give up in the title race, despite Saturday's defeat at home by Barcelona.

Los Merengues suffered a damaging 2-0 loss which saw their arch-rivals go three points clear at La Liga's summit, with the head-to-head record also in the Catalans' favour.

Real director general Valdano, who revealed coach Manuel Pellegrini has the club's "full support", has expressed sympathy for the frustrated supporters while insisting they will keep fighting over the remaining seven matches.
Seven finals remain and we are obligated to play our hearts out until. By earning 21 points we would finish with a league record 98.

"The clasico wasn't the match we had dreamed about," he told AS. "I can understand why the fans are frustrated because expectations were so high.

"Perhaps the team felt it had too much responsibility placed on its shoulders when it took the pitch. We were much more relaxed in the first match at Camp Nou.

"Whether we win the league or not, seven finals remain and we are obligated to play our hearts out until 16 May.

"By earning the remaining 21 points we would finish with a league record 98. That is why we are required to put forth our best effort. And if our main rival slips up one of these days...," he concluded.
