Barcelona went top of La Liga and won a critical season tie-breaker with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabéu on Saturday.
The Blaugrana controlled the possession by nearly a 3-to-2 margin in the first half, and it was highlighted by a fine goal in the 33rd by Lionel Messi.
Xavi lofted a beautiful pass into the area for the diminutive Argentinian striker, and he controlled nicely with his chest before slotting past Iker Casillas for his 27th goal of the season.
Madrid wasted their best opportunities, and Gerard Piqué did a great job keeping Cristiano Ronaldo out of the action.
Barça went 2-0 up in the 56th minute, Xavi again providing the service for Pedro to hit a cool left-footed finish past Casillas.
Víctor Valdés made a couple of key stops, including one against Rafael van der Vaart on a 1v1 situation.
Barcelona are now three points up on Madrid, and essentially up by four due to the tie-breaker.
