STANDARD LIEGE
Bolat: 6 - The Standard goalkeeper didn't cover himself in glory for the first goal, flapping at the cross from Ze Roberto. He was outshone by opposite number Rost.
Marcos: 5 - Another unhappy evening for the Brazilian right-back who looks out of his depth at this level. He dealt better with Pitroipa as he received more protection from in front but still was guilty of a number of clumsy challenges, notably his failed attempt to prevent the third goal from Guerrero.
Sarr: 7 - Standard's most experienced center-back gave a confident performance at the heart of the defense. He was strong in the air, composed in build-up play and willing to throw himself at the ball when danger arose.
Victor Ramos: 5 - The Brazilian defender will learn from this experience in which he failed to hit the heights of his assured showing a week ago. He
Pocognoli: 6 - A disappointing performance from the former AZ man who was less potent going forward than usual and he lost Petric for the second goal, seemingly too busy asking Sarr to deal with the cross rather than intervene himself. He did however produce an excellent free-kick for De Camargo's equalizer.
Witsel: 5 - The creative hub of the team once again failed to spark into life in a big European game for Standard. One shot aside, he was devoid of ideas and didn't live up to his reputation.
Nicaise: 6 - What you see is what you get with the French holding player. He was tidy enough shielding the back four and didn't try to be too fancy, always playing the simple ball. He was however given a masterclass in the position by Jarolim tonight.
Carcela: 7 - Once again Carcela was the brightest player for Les Rouches. He always made himself available and kept plugging away despite the lack of invention from those around him. It was a surprise when he was replaced.
Jovanovic: 5 - A lackluster showing from the Serbian striker who tried hard but had nothing to show for his efforts. Even when he robbed Mathijsen in the second half he failed to capitalize.
De Camargo: 6 - Took his goal excellently and won his fair share of aerial battles although his contributions rarely proved to be incisive. Should have received a red card for a shove on Rost at the end of the first half.
Mbokani: 5 - A disappointing night for the Congolese striker who endured a frustrating time against Boateng and Mathijsen. He had one golden chance in the second half but failed to convert though admittedly Rost made a smart save.
Substitutes
Dalmat: 6 - The French winger was assertive when he came on and showed a willingness to run at the HSV defense however he failed to conjure up anything decisive.
Mangala: N/A
HAMBURG
Rost: 8 - The veteran goalie made a string of fine saves and was not only as safe as houses under the high ball but also extremely alert to any potential danger
Demel: 7 - Another good showing from the Ivorian full-back. He largely nullified the attacking threat of Pocognoli and Jovanovic down Standard's left and supported the attack well without leaving his side exposed
Boateng: 8 - An assured display from the versatile defender who again used all his physical attributes to ensure that Mbokani was never a decisive factor in the match.
Mathijsen: 7 - A mostly no-nonsense performance from the Dutchman who put himself about and organized the backline well. He made one characteristic slip in the second half however that was the only blot on his copybook tonight.
Aogo: 6 - Not as influential as he was in Hamburg although he was solid enough without finding his best form. The young leftback was still able to get forward at times and deliver the occasional testing ball into the box.
Tesche: 6 - The midfielder is highly thought of at Hamburg and he certainly justified his selection ahead of Tunay Torun who played in the first leg. He showed a willingness to come inside and join the play and wasn't shy to shoot either.
Jarolim: 8 - When you're defending a lead away from home in Europe, you need a captain's performance and David Jarolim was imperious tonight in the HSV midfield. He exuded calmness, constantly broke up Standard attacks and when necessary, was prepared to take a foul for the team.
Ze Roberto: 7 - Again a more understated showing from the Brazilian compared to his Czech partner however he showed again why he's been one of the Bundesliga's finest over the years. He delivered an excellent cross for the first goal and linked well with Pitroipa on the left hand side.
Pitroipa: 6 - The Burkina Faso winger was less effective than in the first leg although still troubled Marcos on occasions. It was no surprise when he was replaced by Trochowski late on.
Petric: 9 - The most decisive player in the tie. Petric was on hand to score a crucial double tonight and whilst his first, a header, was crucial in the context of the match, the second, an acrobatic overhead kick, was one of the goals of the tournament. To produce such a moment of magic on the big European night takes something special.
Van Nistelrooy: 7 - Less of a predatory threat than usual however the experienced Dutchman showed another string to his bow by linking up well with the midfield and ensuring a fluency in HSV's play sorely lacking in that of their opponents
Substitutes:
Guerrero: 7 - Came on with a point to prove after an unsavory incident at the weekend. Took his goal superbly and was a lively foil to Van Nistelrooy.
Trochowski: 6 - Showed some nice touches and threaded a number of piercing balls through the HSV defense.
