Uruguayan giants Nacional took sole lead in Copa Libertadores Group Six after a goalless away draw with Ecuador's Deportivo Cuenca, who are eliminated as a result.
Eduardo Acevedo's side reached the nine-point mark, one above Argentinian champions Banfield, with only one round remaining.
Nacional had the most significant chance to win the game but midfielder Gustavo Varela missed a penalty with eight minutes remaining, before Nacional midfielder Oscar Javier Morales was sent off in the 90th minute.
Nacional secured at least the second spot in the group standings but not qualification to the next round as the group winners and only the six best runners-up will achieve that.
The qualifiers will be confirmed on 21 April, when the Uruguayan side playing Morelia of Mexico and Banfield meet Deportivo Cuenca in Argentina.
