England Centre-Back Rio Ferdinand: World Cup Is The Last Thing On My Mind

| |

England captain Rio Ferdinand has admitted that his focus is not on the World Cup this summer, but with Manchester United’s run for a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

With five games left in the Premier League season the Red Devils are trailing Chelsea by two points after their 2-1 defeat to the Blues at Old Trafford last Saturday.

The Chelsea loss was sandwiched between Champions League quarter-final legs with Bayern Munich, with United being eliminated by the German giants on away goals.

Ferdinand has declared that all his attention is on United’s remaining Premier League games, not this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

"There's five games left to try to win the title," Ferdinand told The Telegraph.

"It's not over. It's not in our hands, but we need to make it as difficult as possible for everybody else by winning each and everyone on of our games."

England will kick off their World Cup in Rustenburg on June 12 when they take on the United States, but Ferdinand is more concerned with United.

"It's the last thing on your mind, if I'm honest.

"All I'm thinking about is the result the other night (against Bayern Munich), which was very disappointing and now I'm thinking about Blackburn.
"I don't think much past that, to be honest. We don't have an England game between now and the end of the season so my thoughts are solely on Manchester United."
