Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has heaped praise on Claudio Ranieri, insisting the Roma board made a fine choice in appointing the ‘Tinker Man’ and that he has already exceeded expectations in the Italian capital.
"It is surprising that Roma have overtaken Inter at the top," Ancelotti told FIFA.com.
"But they have had an extraordinary season which has seen Ranieri do things no-one could have foreseen.”
Roma are the in-form team in Italy and their 2-1 victory over Atalanta on Sunday saw them leapfrog Inter and claim first place in Serie A.
“The Giallorossi have not missed a beat,” Ancelotti continued. “The one-point lead over Inter now has to be maintained though and that will be hard.
With just five games remaining, Roma look set to claim their first Scudetto since 2001 and Ancelotti concluded by lauding the club’s decision to appoint Ranieri.
“Roma needed a coach like him, someone who could unify the squad. The club made the right decision to take him on," Ancelotti concluded.
